Since 1997, we have been working in the heart of the Malagasy bush to give children a sustainable future. Over the past 29 years, we have built schools, supported thousands of children, and mobilized donors around sustainable projects.

Founding of Écoles du Monde Madagascar
Launch of the NGO to provide access to education in Madagascar’s isolated rural areas.
1997
14 primary schools built in the Boeny and Sofia regions
Over 2,500 students enrolled annually, with a 99% success rate for the primary school certificate.
2000 - 2015
Free school canteen
From day one, all EDM students receive two balanced meals daily.
Opening of the Besely Campus primary school
A sustainable building designed by architect Jean-Paul Viguier, located 44 km from Mahajanga.
2014
Development of Besely Campus infrastructure
Administrative offices, library, infirmary, theater, housing, vegetable gardens, beehives, wells, toilets, solar energy, and fiber internet. A true educational and local ecosystem.
2015 - 2024
Retrocession of the first 14 schools to the Malagasy state
In accordance with the initial commitments, to strengthen their institutional integration.
2016
Solar energy and fiber internet
Modernization of Besely.
2018-2019
Construction and gradual opening of Besely Middle School
Grades 6 to 9, with classrooms designed by architecture firm ANMA.
2020 - 2023
Installation of a robot-operated observatory
The first of its kind in Madagascar, connected via fiber and used by researchers worldwide.
2021
1st edition of Les Rencontres de Besely
Three days of debates and actions to co-build the future of the campus and the region with Malagasy, French, and international partners.
2023
Opening of the Agricultural and Professional Technical High School (LTAP)
Vocational training focused on agroecology, preparing young people for the jobs of tomorrow.
2024
2nd edition of Les Rencontres de Besely
Three days of debates and actions to co-build the future of the campus and the region.
2025
Completion of the high school buildings
Permanent classrooms for LTAP students from 10th to 12th grade.
2026 - 2028
A sustainable, autonomous, and replicable campus
A model for holistic education and rural development, to be shared in other isolated regions.
