Écoles du Monde is committed to protecting the personal data of all individuals with whom it maintains a relationship through any digital or paper medium, including via its website www.ecolesdumonde.org.

Écoles du Monde is a law 1901 non-profit association recognised as being of public utility, with its registered office at 17 avenue de Tourville, 75007 Paris, represented by Charles GASSOT, its President.

In accordance with the provisions of the French Data Protection Act of 6 January 1978 (known as the “Informatique et Libertés” Act) as amended, and the European General Data Protection Regulation of 25 May 2018 (“GDPR”), Écoles du Monde, as data controller, sets out in this data protection policy how it processes and protects the personal data it collects.

Our Audiences

The categories of data processed include in particular identification data used to communicate with you, to get to know you better and to facilitate your relationship with Écoles du Monde.

Your data is collected through paper or digital forms. Some data is mandatory for communication purposes (contact details), while other data is optional. Optional data is collected to help us better understand you and to send you personalised offers tailored to your expectations (donors, researchers, supporters, etc.).

Data Collected

The personal data collected by the Association, regardless of the medium, includes in particular:

  • Identification data: surname, first name, title, date of birth
  • Contact data: postal address, email address, phone number
  • Transactional data: bank details, donation/purchase amount and date
  • Connection data: date, time, IP address, software and hardware, cookies
  • Lifestyle data: areas of interest, personal or professional life, family situation, etc.

Depending on the purpose, this data may be mandatory for communication or optional. Optional data is collected to help us better understand you and to send you personalised communications and offers tailored to your expectations and profile (donors, researchers, supporters, etc.).

Your data may be collected directly from you (via the contact form, donation form, etc.) or indirectly (e.g. via partners or subcontractors). In the case of indirect collection, Écoles du Monde undertakes to comply with Article 14 of the GDPR and to inform you within 30 days of the source of the data collection and your right to object.

Purposes of Processing

The missions of Écoles du Monde are:

  • To promote the development of education in developing countries.
  • To build, equip and operate schools in cooperation with local authorities.
  • To supply these schools and all other educational establishments with materials, supplies and services.
  • To carry out, within the framework of the above missions, all humanitarian operations such as the provision of medicines, medical equipment, healthcare services, food, agricultural materials and techniques, water resource research and exploitation (construction and maintenance of wells, installation of sanitation and water treatment systems, agricultural development, etc.).

To fulfil its missions, Écoles du Monde collects your personal data for the following main purposes:

  • Managing subscription services: newsletter.
  • Managing applications (employment, internships, volunteering).
  • Responding to your enquiries (information requests, exercise of data protection rights, etc.).
  • Enabling you to access information and services.
  • Ensuring the proper administrative management of donations.
  • Informing and contacting you as part of fundraising campaigns.
  • Managing calls for projects.
  • Managing online purchases or donations.
  • Supporting scientific projects led by the Association.
  • Complying with legal obligations.
  • Managing relationships with the Association’s suppliers.
  • Collecting data for statistical purposes (e.g. website traffic analysis).

Should we need to use your personal data for purposes other than those defined above, we undertake to inform you and give you the opportunity to object.

Depending on the processing carried out on your data, Écoles du Monde relies on one or more of the following legal bases:

  • Legitimate interest (e.g. for contacting you as part of fundraising campaigns).

  • Performance of a contract (e.g. for our contracts with subcontractors).

Measures Taken to Protect the Security, Integrity and Confidentiality of Data

In accordance with current regulations, we undertake to implement appropriate and proportionate technical, IT and organisational measures to ensure the security, integrity and confidentiality of your data. We also take steps to maintain the accuracy of your personal data through regular updates, and we are committed to upholding the principle of data minimisation.

We place great importance on working only with subcontractors and partners who provide reliable and robust measures to comply with French and European regulations on personal data protection.

Retention Period

We retain your personal data for a period strictly necessary for the purposes for which it was collected and processed. Upon expiry of the retention period, your data will be permanently deleted.

Sharing of Your Personal Data

Écoles du Monde only shares the data it collects with its authorised internal departments and its mandated subcontractors, strictly to the extent necessary to fulfil the relevant purpose(s). All persons with access to data are bound by a written and signed confidentiality obligation.

Écoles du Monde requires all subcontractors that process, or are likely to process, personal data on its behalf to comply with applicable regulations and to uphold its obligations towards its audiences and the relevant authorities.

Finally, in order to limit fundraising management costs, the Association may share your data with external partner organisations. You have the right to object to data sharing with other associations for their own fundraising campaigns by contacting the donor relations department.

Your Rights Regarding Your Personal Data

In accordance with the European General Data Protection Regulation of 25 May 2018 and the amended French Data Protection Act, you may withdraw your consent at any time. You also have the right of access, information, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and portability with respect to the processing of your personal data.

You also have the right to define what happens to your personal data after your death.

Amendments to the Privacy Policy

Écoles du Monde reserves the right to update this Privacy Policy at any time to reflect developments in new regulations and its practices.
