Rencontres de Besely : Can we reinvent the future of rural areas ?

From 13 to 15 May, the second edition of the Besely Meetings took place in the heart of the Boeny region in Madagascar. Organised by Écoles du Monde, the event brought together around a hundred participants : institutional representatives (the French Ambassador, members of the Réunion, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté and Boeny regional authorities), experts in education and agricultural development, technical and financial partners, as well as the campus staff, students and families.

At the heart of this edition was a strong ambition: “To accelerate education, training and development in the Boeny region”, whilst envisioning the agricultural technical college and the Besely campus of tomorrow 🌱

The three days were punctuated by round-table discussions, campus tours and workshops that highlighted, in particular, the results of the actions carried out over the past year as part of the FEF+ project: continuing professional development for teachers, agroecology and robotics programmes, the expansion of school infrastructure, the installation of water towers, tracks and agricultural equipment…

Discussions also raised the issue of self-financing and strengthening the agricultural sector; the ‘Les Saveurs de Besely’ project is the main vehicle for supplying Mahajanga and, why not, Mayotte 🥦

A highlight of inspiration, sharing and collaborative development. The in-depth discussions outlined the key priorities of ‘Besely 2030’: food self-sufficiency, promoting the Francophonie, and helping young graduates enter the workforce.
